Work Day
© Beki Greenwood 2012
Tuesday from 2:30-4:30 is Work Day at camp. Everyone pitches in to help fix up the place. One group may be vacuuming carpets and washing window in the Main Building, while the Sparks collect kindling, and various others are repairing chairs, fixing torn screens, replacing broken window panes, painting, hauling, digging, plumbing, cutting, clearing, sweeping, planing, adjusting, and cleaning various other things all over camp.

"Work Day Junk"
The felled tree had been cut into sections, and all the beds and other junk had come out of the big, old, green, army Supply Tent that was located in the south end of the circle inside the driveway loop at that time (see 1956 photo just below). It was going to be put into another big, old, green, army tent that you can see stretched out in a long line just in front of the three standing people (the middle one of whom is Ed Schnurr) and the large tree on the right. They pitched the tent on the cement slab that is under the tent, and then put all the junk in it. It took the entire two hours.

"Painting the Old End of the Kitchen"
(3 photos)
These are the only two known photos of the old end of the Kitchen before the Goddard Annex was added. That's George Dole up on the roof in both photos, and John Perry in the upper photo painting the door frame on the porch below. That door is the same door that goes into the Kitchen next to the walk-in fridge today. The upper window on the left is still there, too.
That's George Dole and John Perry again on the same day on the side of the old Kitchen that's facing Rte 302.
