Work Weekend Photos
© FNCA 2008
Every year since 1994, the Buildings and Grounds Committee and other obliging souls gather at the Assembly during the Memorial Day holiday for Work Weekend: three days of maintenance and upkeep of the facilities. (Not to mention socializing together each evening!) We are very grateful for all of the volunteers at camp. Here's photos of some of them at work and some of the projects they've worked on. Thank you one and all.

"Getting Everything Up and Running.
Work Weekend Was Quite an Adventure."
"Goddard Cabin Project"
Start.
Finish.
"Twitchellizing the Lawrence Cabin"
Back in 2011, the front doors on both sides of the Twitchell Cabin were removed and replaced with windows (new entrance doors were added to both ends of the porch). This made the interiors much more useable since there were no longer doorways going directly into the bedrooms. It worked so well that 12 years later, the same improvement was done on the Lawrence Cabin (which already had porch entrances).

"The Window that Used to be a Door"
One of the first Work Weekend projects this year was replacing the old, dilapidated, and poorly placed kitchen door on the Boston Cabin with a window.

"New Bunkbed in the Boys Dorm"
A bunch of junk got removed from the Dorm, too, including an old shower stall that had been up in the rafters for at least a decade. GONE!
"Weeding the Whitehead Hall Religious Library"
The Camp Historian and a librarian did what librarians call "weeding books": removing unused and out of date books from the collection. They then did what librarians call "shifting books": moving the rest of the books around to more appropriate places. On the right side, you will now find (top to bottom) the New Century Edition copies of the Writings, the Bibles, the "green 30" copies of the Writings, Pott's Concordance, the Dole Notes, and the Sower Notes. In the middle is everything music, including 2 boxes of brand new Hosanna's (which have spilled over to the right side. And on the left is all the collateral literature.
What's not there anymore are 8 sets of out-dated translations of the Writings, scores of out-dated and/or damaged hymnals, dozens of ancient, falling apart volumes ranging from religious to secular, and more.
"Empty Walk-In"
Along with several other kitchen projects, our walk-in fridge was completely cleaned out — even the shelves! — and then totally scrubbed down before everything was put back in.
"Lonely Cleaning Product"
Just sittin' here. Nobody's around. Wondering how long I'll be here all by myself. Hope it won't be too long because I've got work to do!

"The Spread"
Our new COOK Crew (Caretakers Of Our Kitchen) from last year's camp session did all the cooking for Work Weekend this year. 3 cheers for Jason, Alex, and Chris!!!

The walls of little tiny Room 10 (the old "hospital room" upstairs above the pantry in the Main Building) were taken down and a long wall was built from there along the edge of the Cook's Quarters (right) to the main stairway up to the Girls Dorm, creating a new hallway (left) that continues the old hallway that used to end by the cooks' bathroom upstairs across the back of the building to the top of the stairway up to the Girls Dorm.
