"Old Pantry Sign"
© Nancy F. Little 2011Several people were amused to discover this old sign in the pantry that lists the old waitress schedule from the pre-1980 days when the female Flames waited tables and the male Flames did the the dishes and all the Flames ate together in the kitchen ½ hour before meals. The girls had to report 15 minutes early to set the tables. Wonder what the penalty was for being late?
(By the way, there's another sign of the same vintage and handwriting that shows the proper way to arrange a place setting.)

These all arrived one day and hung out together next to the front porch for a while.
"Little Mtn"
© Trevor 2010
This is only fun or funny if you know her name is Nancy Little. This photo was taken at the "mountain finder" on top of Jockey Cap Mountain in Fryeburg ME. (And the concept of Jockey Cap being called a mountain is only fun or funny if you know it only takes 10 minutes to get to the top!)
"Laces"
© Jon Cousins 2010Emily Woofenden(l) and Beki Greenwood(r) with their really high hightop lace-up sneakers made a big splash one day at camp!

"Pop's Parking Space"
© Kristina Madjerac 2009 When Pop Woof broke his leg the first day of camp one year, he decided to reserve himself the parking space nearest to his cabin. In typical Pop fashion, he found a piece of a board, wrote on it in marker, and nailed it to a tree. The next year, it was already grandfathered in, so he continued to park there each year for well over a decade until he was no longer able to drive. The sign, however, is still there.
"The Colgateville Pigs"
© Ian Woofenden 2009 For decades, Colgate Searle has been working on a miniature village at camp, quietly creating all the pieces during lectures in the lecture hall. When he sets up "Colgate- ville" for a few days each year, it's always a big sensation!
The village has grown from just a few modest buildings to include town hall, church, blacksmith shop, covered bridge, sawmill, army tent, and other delights. The latest addition is a pig sty complete with hand-carved pigs.

He's posing (although he continued to read it for quite a while). She's barely controlling her laughter (although she managed not to spray food all over the place).

"The Claxton Computer Lav"
© Nancy F. Little 2008
One corner of the Claxton cabin is just close enough to the modem in the Main Building to pick up the Assembly's Wifi --- it just happens that that corner is in the bathroom! So here's Beki Greenwood hard at work cheerfully doing her daily telecommute not in a computer lab but in the Claxton Computer Lav.

"...and a Minister in a Sling"
© Amy Blackman 2008For Comedy Night, the Sparks did a hilarious parody of "The 12 Days of Christmas" song, each verse ending with this photo's title.

"Alex's Head"
© Tobin Grams 2007Whenever the Flames go to the beach, it's virtually inevitable that one of them will get buried in the sand. In this case, it's Alex Dyer being covered by Ross Grams (l) and Josh Cook (r). That's Ben Gram behind them fishing through his bag and Troy Grams's colorful bathing suit and muscular legs.

"Lap Sit"
© Trevor 1973 & unknown 1995 One of the many wonderful New Games is the incomparable Lap Sit: everyone stands in a very, very tight circle and then they all sit down on everyone's lap together in unison! That's the Flames during Flames Games in 1973 on the left, and an even dozen Woof cousins with Uncle Ian in 1995 on the right.

"Dry Run on the Old Rope Swing"
© Andrew Dole
For years, before the old rope swing came down, it was traditional among the younger generation to traipse down to the river in their Sunday Best after church and do fully-clothed "dry runs" on the rope swing before lunch. It also was not at all unusual for someone to do a dry run during regular swimming hours, like this guy here (who we think is either Evan Palazzo or Kenny Condon).
